Elfie Forgot

The disappointment in her eyes was obvious.

“Mommy, Elfie didn’t leave any candy.”

Elfie recently began leaving treats in our Advent Calendar from Santa to reward good behavior - another desperate attempt to help bribe my children into obeying (Thanks to Laura for the suggestion).

First thought, I am amazed my children still believe - Santa Claus and his friend, Elfie, make A LOT of mistakes at our house.

Second thought, the girls were so well behaved yesterday and I missed a great opportunity to show them that good things happen to good people bribe them.

Third thought, today is the Feast of The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I suggested that maybe Elfie was going to leave us something while we were at Mass - didn’t really work.

“Well, Santa Claus is old. You know how old people forget things,” I said.

“Yea, When Santa is really old, Elfie is going to take over,” said MC.

“Well, Santa Claus will never be too old to be Santa Claus. Just like you are never too old to believe,” I replied.

“I believe in Santa Claus,” MC said, even more confused.

Seriously, when will I learn to keep my mouth shut?

“You know how we believe in Jesus and know that he is always with us. We also believe in Santa Claus and the spirit of Christmas...”

Still confused.

“Ok, well, let’s get dressed,” I offered.

Then MC shot back with, “Maybe, he’s going to leave us coloring books today.”

Now, how can I purchase coloring books today in the rain with 3 children - 2 of whom are contagious.

Elfie in action - on the lookout for good behavior

**Update**
I left coins after she went to school, and she didn’t see them until the next day. She thinks she just didn't look hard enough yesterday:)
