But Mom, We Don't Need Any
I finally received my new Tupperware order yesterday and was anxious to unpack, clean, and start using everything. I have only been aware of the dangers of plastic for about a year now, and I wish that I was still ignorant about the whole issue. I love plastic, though, and I continue to buy plastic and pretend that it is safe. My most recent Tupperware order contained some divided plates for the girls to use that was going to “improve” their eating experience. The divided plates have high edges like a bowl. I prefer to serve the girls their food in bowls because it’s easier to scoop into their spoons than from a plate. I have been using up to 6 bowls per meal, which is a pain to clean (and it wastes water in a drought), and it’s hard for the girls to remember to eat from every bowl. Obviously, I needed these new plates. The plates were on sale if you bought them in a set that included mini tumblers, and bowls with lids. I couldn’t pass up the sale. I needed the set, and since we have 3 children, I needed two sets. As I was showing MC how cool everything was, she burst my bubble when she said, “Mom. We don’t need any more cups and bowls, we have plenty already, Mom. Why did you buy these?” MC thinks just like her dad (and the environmentalists who say it is better to use the old plastic than to buy new, throw the old away, and wait 99 years for the old to decompose!)
