Spelling

Our days of being able to spell are coming to an end. Here’s why.

Chad and I spelled N-A-P when talking about SF taking a nap. MC promptly asked us if SF was going to take a nap.

Later that week MC told me that C-A-T spelled cat. She said she learned that from her Leap Frog How to Spell video.

This past Saturday, we were at the table eating waffles when MC said, “Does H-O-T spell hot?” Chad and I gave each other a surprised look and replied, “Yes, why?” MC showed us the Syrup bottle and pointed to H-O-T on the bottle that lets us know the syrup is hot. We have no idea where she learned to spell that word.

MC is extremely interested in the reading and writing process. Grandmother is teaching her her letters, and she loves to write now. I bought a Phonics book this past fall to teach her how to read, but I’m going at it slowly. I taught her the vowels a while back. Today I finally taught her the first six consonants. I’m learning a lot about how to speak correctly in the process. Maybe, I’ll learn to sound like the educated person I am (HA!) instead of a Mississippi redneckJ
